Sookie LaCroix 1942 - 2010

SOOKIE LACROIX, SOOKIE LACROIX, 68, of Lapeer for 33 years (formerly of Flint and Marine City) died on Sunday, May 2, 2010.
She was born on March 23, 1942 in Marine City, Michigan to Francis A. and Marie R. (Johns) LaCroix.

Sookie graduated from Holy Cross High School in Marine City, Class of 1961. She attended St. Josephís School of Nursing in Flint
and earned her bachelors degree in nursing. Sookie served her country proudly as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. She was the
Kerarsley School Districtís beloved school nurse for over 30 years. Sookie donated her summers serving as a Red Cross disaster nurse.
She also was active teaching first aid and CPR as a Red Cross volunteer. Sookie was a charter member of the Eastern Michigan Woodworkers
and wrote their newsletter for years. She was the first recipient of the Michigan School Nurse of the Year Award. She was a great
softball player and in general was the consummate tomboy. Sookie helped everyone she came in contact with during her life.

She is survived by her dear friend, Jeri Loessel of Lapeer; adopted family, Mark (Cynthia Ann) Loessel of Flint, Deena (Mike) Dickerson of
Indianapolis and Tami (Mike) Porritt of Katy, TX; siblings, John (Natalie) LaCroix of Novi, LeeAnn Olafson of Capac, Carolyn (Tom) Ketelhut of
DeBary, Florida, Kathy Bogl of Clinton Twp. and Renee LaCroix of
Phoenix, AZ. Sookie is also survived by many, many, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Marie LaCroix and dear friend, Kenneth Loessel.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family.

Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Military honors were
conducted immediately following mass, under the auspices of the American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard. Father Aaron
Depeyster officiated. Burial took place in Stiles Cemetery.
